Man Utd make Ruben Amorim sack decision after humiliating defeat by Grimsby

Manchester United’s stance on whether to part ways with Ruben Amorim has been mentioned before the club’s dismal defeat by Grimsby Town.
On Wednesday night, Grimsby produced one of the biggest upsets in Carabao Cup history as they dispatched Premier League giants United in the second round.
In front of a packed crowd inside Blundell Park, Grimsby headed into the half-time interval with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Charles Vernam and Tyrell Warren.
As the second half got underway, Amorim brought on big guns such as Matthijs de Ligt, Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo.
The likes of Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee were also introduced as United pushed to get back into the match.
Mbeumo scored his first goal for the club in the 75th minute to give the visitors some hope.
Harry Maguire then made it 2-2 by heading in from a corner in the 88th minute.
Penalties followed, and after a marathon shootout, Mbeumo missed his second effort, sealing Grimsby’s passage to the third round via a 12-11 victory.

The latest defeat meant that Amorim has failed to win in their opening three competitive matches of the 25/26 campaign, having lost to Arsenal and drawn with Fulham in the Premier League.
Looking ahead, Amorim’s future will for sure be questioned with the Red Devils showing no signs of improving.
Back in May, before United’s 1-0 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, it was claimed that Amorim’s job was safe.
A report from The Times claimed that United would stick with Amorim regardless of the result of the Europa League final.
It was suggested that, unless Amorim resigns, he would be the man to lead United in the 25/26 season as his job was ‘under no threat at all’.
However, with United suffering an embarrassment early in the 25/26 season, things could begin to turn ugly for Amorim.
Looking ahead, United will be back in Premier League action this weekend when they take on Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
