Xavi Opens up on Potential Man United Job
Xavi Linked to Manchester United Job as Amorim’s Struggles Continue
Manchester United’s disappointing start to the new season has reignited speculation about the future of manager Ruben Amorim and opened the door for former Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez to potentially take the reins at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have endured a difficult opening to the 2025/2026 Premier League campaign, picking up just one point from a possible six.
A narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on the opening day was followed by a frustrating 1-1 draw against Fulham, a result that has left Manchester United languishing in 16th place.
Amorim’s tenure, which began in November of last year, has been plagued by inconsistency. His record of just seven wins in 29 Premier League games has put him under intense pressure, with the team’s performances drawing uncomfortable comparisons to managers who have faced relegation battles.
Reports suggest that Xavi, who was previously a target for Manchester United before Amorim’s appointment, is open to the possibility of taking the job should the situation deteriorate further.
While he initially opted to take a sabbatical after leaving Barcelona, he has been keeping a close eye on the managerial landscape and is said to be interested in a return to management at a top club.
The Spaniard’s links to the Manchester United job are not new. He was reportedly in discussions with the club’s hierarchy last year, but ultimately decided against cutting his break short.
However, with Amorim’s poor run of form showing no signs of abating, the prospect of Xavi taking over is now a very real possibility.
For Manchester United, the current situation is a cause for concern. Despite significant investment in the summer transfer window, with over £200 million spent on players like Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, the team’s attack has been blunt and their results have been far from what is expected of a club of their stature.
With the pressure mounting on Ruben Amorim, the looming shadow of Xavi Hernandez serves as a reminder of the high stakes at play.
