I didn’t like the game’ – Hansi Flick not happy with Barcelona despite Real Mallorca win
The coach felt his team lacked intensity
Barcelona began their title defence with a 3-0 win over 9-man Real Mallorca on Saturday at Son Moix but manager Hansi Flick wasn’t too happy with the result or the performance.
The Barcelona boss spoke about the game and says he wants a word with his players because he wasn’t happy with what he saw, particularly in the second half.
”I didn’t like the game. They are three important points, but I didn’t like the game. After the 0-2 and the two red cards, the team played at 50%. I have to talk about it, I didn’t like it,” he told the media.
”I think we should have continued to control the ball and the game, but we have to score. Here’s what I can say: we can’t play 50 or 60 per cent against nine players.”
Goals from Raphinha and Ferran Torres put Barcelona in control, while Mallorca saw both Manu Morlanes and Vedat Muriqi sent off in the first half.
Flick also gave his verdict on Ferran’s goal, which angered Real Mallorca as they thought the game should have been stopped for a head injury, but the German says players must play to the whistle.
“If I were on the other side of Ferran’s goal, I would be frustrated too, but I always tell my players to play until the referee’s whistle,” he explained. “The referee didn’t stop the game, so play must continue, but I understand Mallorca’s team’s frustration.”
Barcelona’s third goal of the game didn’t come until late on when Yamal curled a terrific effort past goalkeeper Leo Román in stoppage time.
