Liverpool star’s departure is reportedly ‘drawing nearer’ with one key element influencing his choice between ‘two destinations’; FSG aims to ‘profit’.

As per reports, a Liverpool star is ‘drawing nearer’ to departing from the Premier League club as he prepares to select between ‘two destinations’.

Liverpool has swiftly acted to secure their primary targets ahead of competitors, having already signed Jeremie Frimpong and Armin Pecsi, while Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez are on the verge of transfers to Anfield.

The Reds clinched the Premier League title comfortably during Arne Slot’s inaugural season at Anfield, achieving this while collaborating with Jurgen Klopp’s squad, with Federico Chiesa being their sole acquisition in the 2024/25 season.

After leading Liverpool to their 20th Premier League championship, Slot has been granted a substantial budget to assemble a new team, and further signings are anticipated to follow Wirtz and Kerkez this summer, as the club is poised to improve from ninth in our net spending rankings.

Several departures are also anticipated to generate funds, with Darwin Nunez’s exit viewed as inevitable due to interest from Europe and the Middle East.

Nunez struggled to meet expectations after his £64m transfer to Liverpool, which was facilitated by former manager Jurgen Klopp, who disregarded a data warning to ensure his signing.

The Uruguayan forward fell down the hierarchy during the 2024/25 season, making only eight Premier League starts and being outperformed by Liverpool’s other forwards.

Liverpool opted to reject interest from Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr in January, as they were reluctant to allow any players to depart amid a title challenge, but a transfer is now much more probable this summer as he has additional options.

A recent report from Football Insider suggests that Nunez is ‘drawing nearer’ to leaving Liverpool, with ‘two destinations’ available, as Atletico Madrid and Al-Hilal lead the pursuit.

Liverpool ‘plans to profit’ from Nunez’s sale, and Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke indicates that one significant factor will influence Nunez’s decision.

O’Rourke stated: “Al-Hilal has a clear intention to recruit a number nine.

“They have faced challenges in their pursuit of Victor Osimhen and were aiming for a significant marquee signing prior to the Club World Cup, which has not materialized.

“Liverpool is receptive to offers for Darwin Nunez as he does not fit into Arne Slot’s strategy.

“It’s not solely Al-Hilal; other clubs in the Saudi Pro League are also considering the Uruguayan.

“European clubs will also show interest in Darwin Nunez, with Atletico Madrid being one of the teams reportedly keen on acquiring him.

“Liverpool is waiting for the best possible offer, which they can then allocate towards their own transfer objectives.

“At this moment, Nunez’s prospects appear to be moving away from Anfield, and it remains to be seen whether he is inclined towards the Saudi Pro League or prefers to remain in Europe.”
