Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha is Manchester United’s first-choice target for the number 10 position.
He registered 15 goals and six assists in the recently concluded Premier League season for Wolves.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the versatile forward has now agreed a five-year contract with United with an option for a further year.
Wolves have also agreed to accept Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause in instalments from the Red Devils.
He will reportedly wear the number 10 jersey, currently worn by academy graduate Marcus Rashford since 2018.
Rashford is poised to leave the club this summer, leaving the iconic shirt number vacant.
Cunha’s arrival may force Alejandro Garnacho to leave
Cunha’s arrival could affect talented winger Alejandro Garnacho, forcing him to leave United.
The Brazilian should secure a regular spot in the starting line-up as one of two number 10s, with Bruno Fernandes likely to be the other.
Manager Ruben Amorim wants Fernandes to stay at Old Trafford beyond this summer despite reported interest from Saudi Pro League clubs (SPL).
With Cunha and Fernandes playing as the number 10s, Garnacho might not get ample minutes, especially as United failed to qualify for Europe.
Garnacho has already hinted at a possible departure. His omission from the squad that faced Aston Villa on Sunday has added to the speculation.
Amorim has told the Argentine to find a new club, meaning he is planning next season without him.
United would be open to listening to offers for him. As an academy graduate, his sale would provide pure profit for the club.
The Mancunian giants valued him at £65m earlier this month amid interest from Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Juventus.
