Bruno Fernandes Breaks Silence on Manchester United Exit After Europa League Final Defeat

Bruno Fernandes has dropped a bombshell about his Manchester United future, admitting he could leave Old Trafford this summer if the club decides to cash in on him.
The United captain made the admission just hours after his side’s heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final—a loss that ended their hopes of Champions League qualification and deepened the club’s financial concerns.
With Saudi giants Al-Hilal reportedly ready to offer Fernandes a staggering £200 million deal over three years, United could be tempted to listen to offers, especially after missing out on the £100 million Champions League windfall.
Speaking after the final in Bilbao, Fernandes didn’t rule out a move. “I have always been honest,” he said. “If the club thinks it’s time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in or whatever, it is what it is. Football sometimes is like this.”
Fernandes has never hidden his desire to help Manchester United return to glory. “I’ve always said I will be here until the club says to me that it’s time to go,” he continued. “I’m eager to do more, to bring the club to the great days. But the day that the club thinks that I’m too much or it’s time to part ways, football is like this, you never know.”
Despite the uncertainty around his future, Fernandes backed under-pressure manager Ruben Amorim to lead United forward. While some fans and pundits have raised doubts about Amorim’s suitability following United’s worst-ever Premier League finish and failure to secure Champions League football, the Portuguese playmaker believes he’s the right man for the job.
“We just agreed that he’s the right man,” Fernandes said. “He has done a lot of good things. Obviously, we see more than that as players. It’s not my decision, but I do think the manager is the right one.”
Fernandes added: “It’s difficult to see it now, I understand that. But I still believe he’s the right man to lead this club. The situation is tough, and it might be easier for the club to bring someone else in because of the results. But I don’t think there’s a better person for the job.”
Reflecting on the painful defeat in the final, Fernandes said, “It’s very sad. We wanted to win this final more than anything. We’ve done some really good things in this competition, but today was the day that mattered, and we didn’t deliver. It’s a very sad day.”
The defeat to Spurs capped off a season Fernandes himself called “unacceptable,” and with big decisions looming this summer, both his future and United’s direction remain uncertain.
