JUST IN: GEM. Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad has completely transformed his future at Liverpool as the Reds DOUBLE the deal to £91 million

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi may have a second chance at a transfer to Liverpool after reportedly regretting his decision to snub a move to Anfield this past summer.
The Reds had made significant efforts to bring the Euro 2024 winner aboard, agreeing to pay his €60 million (£50.5 million, $66.9 million) release clause and substantially increasing his wages, which would have tripled his earnings from Real Sociedad.
Initially, Zubimendi was set to undergo medical checks on Merseyside, but his agent contacted Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, to inform him that the player had reconsidered and would not be making the move. This decision was a disappointment for the Reds, who chose not to pursue alternative signings at that time, opting instead to analyze their options for the future.
However, recent reports from Estadio Deportivo suggest that the door has swung back open for Zubimendi. The midfielder is reportedly ready to “back-track” on his earlier decision due to two main reasons. Firstly, Real Sociedad has struggled to replace key players like Robin Le Normand and Mikel Merino, leading to a disappointing start in La Liga, where the team currently sits in 16th place after six matches. As a result, Zubimendi is feeling the pressure and has expressed regret over not joining Liverpool, indicating he would like the Reds to consider making a move for him again in January.
Secondly, it has come to light that Real Sociedad has not yet offered Zubimendi a new deal, despite assurances that they would do so once he declined the Liverpool transfer. He remains on his existing contract, worth approximately €3 million a year (just under £50,000 a week), which he signed back in October 2022. This lack of a new contract may further fuel his desire to seek a fresh opportunity at Liverpool.
