Wojciech Szczesny on Ter Stegen’s return: ‘I have no problem with it’

Wojciech Szczesny had a calm evening in Barcelona’s midweek clash with Atlético Madrid, a contrast to his past meetings with them. In an interview with TVP Sport, he stated his intentions clearly: “We’ve reached the point where dreams must become concrete goals. Right now, our goal is to win everything.”

Barcelona continues their strong run, sitting three points ahead of Real Madrid in La Liga, who they will face in the Copa del Rey final. They are also leading contenders in the Champions League, with a quarterfinal against Borussia Dortmund approaching.

Since becoming the starting goalkeeper earlier this year, Szczesny has remained unbeaten. “I came out of retirement because I believed this team could achieve something special. I wanted to be a part of that,” he said.

Asked about Marc-André ter Stegen’s return to training, he expressed no worry over the rivalry: “He’s training with us, but he’s not fully recovered yet. The most important thing is that he’s healthy. If he comes back and takes his place in goal, I won’t have any problems. My job is to help the team and perform at my best. But if the coach decides that our captain should play, I’ll understand perfectly.”

He also commented on Barcelona’s playing style: “This is the most beautiful and effective team I’ve ever played for. It was my 19th consecutive unbeaten game, and honestly, it’s a pleasure to play like this. The pressure in the final minutes is simply to make sure I don’t mess anything up. It’s a very good job; I recommend it to all Polish players!”

Barcelona are set to take on Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final on April 26 in Seville.
