Truth Behind Liverpool Icon Jurgen Klopp’s Real Madrid Links

There is a genuine chance that Real Madrid could part ways with Carlo Ancelotti after this season, and sources have identified his most likely successor despite recent speculation about Jurgen Klopp making a surprise move to the club.

Ancelotti has guided Madrid to 14 major trophies, including two LaLiga titles and three Champions League triumphs across two spells, earning immense admiration from both fans and club president Florentino Perez.

The Spanish giants remain in contention for the LaLiga title, currently trailing Barcelona by three points with nine matches left, while also preparing to face Arsenal in the Champions League semi-finals.

Although Ancelotti’s contract runs until 2026, TEAMtalk understands that Madrid could opt for a managerial change this summer, as the Italian coach has been linked with the Brazil national team job. He is reportedly one of the Brazilian Federation’s preferred candidates, alongside Al Hilal boss Jorge Jesus.

In recent days, former Liverpool manager Klopp has been associated with an unexpected move to the Bernabeu, despite only taking up his position as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer in January.

However, sources indicate there is no substance to the reports connecting Klopp with Madrid. The German coach is currently committed to his new role, and while he may return to management eventually, it is not an immediate prospect.

TEAMtalk understands that Klopp could be open to managing an international team in the future. Germany is a potential option, and he is closely monitoring Julian Nagelsmann’s situation, with the latter’s tenure potentially hinging on Germany’s performance at the 2026 World Cup.

Additionally, Klopp is reportedly interested in the England job at some point. Thomas Tuchel’s contract only runs until after the 2026 World Cup, and while the Football Association is not planning a change, if a vacancy arises, Klopp could be considered alongside Pep Guardiola and Eddie Howe.

**Real Madrid’s Managerial Focus Is Clear**

Despite various names being linked to Madrid, it remains uncertain whether Ancelotti will depart, and the summer could be a complicated period for the club due to their participation in the Club World Cup. However, sources insist that if a managerial change occurs, there is only one leading candidate.

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso is not just Madrid’s top target but their sole priority.

Alonso is aware that Leverkusen will not obstruct his move if he decides to take charge at Madrid, just as they were prepared for his potential switch to Liverpool. He maintains a strong relationship with the club, particularly with respected CEO Fernando Carro. While no formal release clause exists, it would not prevent his departure if he chooses to leave.

Though Alonso was intrigued by the Liverpool opportunity, Arne Slot’s appointment has closed that door, making Madrid his most probable next destination. Ancelotti’s future remains undecided, but a move to Brazil is a possibility if talks progress. Madrid, however, will not push Ancelotti out, meaning he could still see out his contract on his own terms.
