Arne Slot Makes Surprise Statement on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Remaining Games for Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s return to Liverpool’s training center was anything but smooth, as tensions rose following reports that the right-back has agreed to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the 2024/25 season.
The England international has been a crucial figure in Liverpool’s success under both Jürgen Klopp and now Arne Slot. However, his decision to leave without generating a transfer fee has sparked criticism from some Liverpool fans, who feel betrayed by his departure.
A video posted on Liverpool’s official social media account has added to the speculation, showing an awkward atmosphere as Alexander-Arnold entered the training ground. The footage captured a noticeably hesitant handshake between the defender and his teammates. “Trent avoids eye contact, while the expressions of the players around him are cold and distant,” the Daily Mail reported. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah appeared in high spirits, sharing smiles and laughs with Joe Gomez and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Amid growing controversy, Liverpool manager Arne Slot addressed the situation and made a surprising statement about Alexander-Arnold’s role in the remaining games of the season.
“Trent is still a Liverpool player, and he will be treated as such. I don’t care about speculation-what matters is his has given so much to this club, and I expect him to continue performing at the highest level.”
Alexander-Arnold has been with Liverpool since 2004, joining the club as a young academy prospect. Since making his senior debut in 2016, he has made 349 appearances and won seven major trophies with the Reds.
Former Arsenal star Paul Merson also weighed in on the situation during an appearance on Sky Sports: “I think Liverpool fans should be proud of what he’s done. He deserves a new chapter inhis career.”
With emotions running high, all eyes will be on how Alexander-Arnold navigates his final season at Anfield-and whether he can leave on good terms with the club and its supporters.
