Unless there’s an unexpected change, Barcelona is set to secure an unwanted player from Florentino Pérez and Real Madrid. Recent reports suggest that the defender, who is eager to play in La Liga, is on the verge of joining the Catalan club.

After Dani Carvajal and Éder Militão were injured, Real Madrid was ready to make moves in the transfer market in January should they face defensive problems. During this period, several options were suggested to the Madrid management. Like Sergio Ramos, who was rejected by Florentino Pérez despite being available for free, Jonathan Tah was also proposed. However, with solutions found in Raúl Asensio and Aurélien Tchouaméni by Carlo Ancelotti, the experienced Bayer Leverkusen defender, whose contract expires in June, did not receive a positive response from Madrid.

Despite his vast experience, the 29-year-old defender, who plays alongside Antonio Rüdiger for the German national team, has never been seriously considered. Eager to move to Spain and try a new league after spending his entire career in the Bundesliga, Jonathan Tah and his representatives are said to have offered him to FC Barcelona. With no move to Real Madrid on the horizon, the German defender is keen to work with Hansi Flick, his fellow countryman. According to recent reports from the Madrid newspaper Marca, things are reportedly moving in a positive direction for Tah.

Given the current defensive issues at the Catalan club, Joan Laporta is said to have approved the potential arrival of the player rejected by Madrid for next season. Unless there’s a major change of plans, he is expected to sign with FC Barcelona and join after June 30. In any case, his addition to La Liga would be beneficial, as he is a player of significant quality. With Raúl Asensio confirming the presence of talent in the Madrid reserves, Florentino Pérez no longer intends to pursue players nearing their thirties.
