A controversial decision to revoke a penalty awarded in stoppage time overshadowed the match between Everton and Manchester United, as the Red Devils made an extraordinary comeback to draw 2-2 at Goodison Park. Manchester United were completely outplayed in the first half, with Everton taking the lead in the 19th minute courtesy of Beto’s clever finish. The Portuguese forward’s fifth goal in four Premier League games extended his remarkable form.

Everton kept up their dominance, extending their lead just 11 minutes later. After Andre Onana blocked a Jack Harrison shot, the rebound landed at Abdoulaye Doucoure’s feet, and he nodded the ball into an empty net. The Toffees stayed in control until the half-time break and for nearly 20 minutes after the restart.

Manchester United’s first shot on target came after 70 minutes, resulting in a goal. Captain Bruno Fernandes bent a free-kick into the bottom right corner, giving his side a glimmer of hope. This moment of inspiration spurred the Red Devils on, and Manuel Ugarte equalized just eight minutes later.

In deep stoppage time, Everton were awarded a penalty following a foul on Ashley Young. However, referee Andy Madley was called to review the situation on the pitch, and despite seeming to show Matthijs de Ligt pulling Young’s shirt, the decision was overturned. The match ended 2-2, leaving Everton frustrated and Manchester United relieved.

Everton’s strong form under David Moyes continued, having won four and drawn one of their previous five Premier League matches. Moyes, a former Manchester United manager, had a mixed record against the Red Devils, securing two wins in his last three encounters. However, the Toffees’ inability to preserve their lead and clinch a crucial win will be disappointing for the team and their supporters.
