Mourinho Warns Amorim: Drop this player or Face the Sack Like Ten Hag

Manchester United’s struggles this season have been well-documented, and following another disappointing loss—this time a 1-0 defeat away to Tottenham—one club legend has had enough. Former United manager and current Fenerbahçe coach José Mourinho has reportedly sent a stern message to new Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, warning him about a certain player who, according to Mourinho, is a “ticking time bomb” and a disruptive force within the dressing room.
The player in question? Alejandro Garnacho.
Mourinho’s message was direct: “He got Erik ten Hag sacked, and he’ll get you sacked as well. He’s a ticking time bomb waiting to explode anytime soon. He ruined Erik ten Hag’s career, and he will ruin yours too. Keep starting him, and you will find yourself out before the season ends.”
For many Manchester United fans, this mirrors a sentiment they’ve been voicing for months. Garnacho, once seen as one of the club’s brightest prospects, has seen his reputation take a sharp decline. The Argentine winger’s performances on the field have been inconsistent, but it’s his attitude and reported conflicts behind the scenes that have raised significant concern.
Ten Hag, who was dismissed earlier this year after a disappointing season, reportedly had difficulty managing the dressing room, with Garnacho at the center of some of the major controversies. From publicly challenging his manager to social media outbursts and training ground confrontations, the 20-year-old has been accused of being a negative influence rather than a positive contributor to the team.
With a new coach now in charge, many hoped for a fresh start, but Mourinho’s words serve as a cautionary tale: history may repeat itself. Amorim, having just taken over at Old Trafford, is under intense pressure to turn things around. If he fails, he could be shown the door just as quickly as Ten Hag was. According to Mourinho, supporting Garnacho could be the decision that seals his fate.
Fans have also expressed their concerns on social media. Many are urging for the young winger to be dropped before he does irreversible damage to the club’s season. “Finally, someone said it out loud!! GET THIS PLAYER OUT OF THE SQUAD before it’s too late!!” wrote one exasperated fan. Others have pointed to his lack of discipline, questioning whether he truly has the mentality to succeed at a club of Manchester United’s stature.
For Garnacho, this could be a pivotal moment in his career. Will he silence his critics and prove he can be a team player, or will he continue down a path that could see him become just another talented young player who failed to realize his potential?
As for Amorim, he faces a crucial decision. Mourinho’s warning is clear—ignore it at your own peril. With Manchester United already struggling with consistency, the last thing they need is another divisive figure creating further chaos. If Garnacho doesn’t improve soon, he could find himself benched, or worse—out of the club altogether.
That report raises some doubts. Mourinho has not publicly made any comments like that about Garnacho, and Ruben Amorim isn’t even the manager of Manchester United—Erik ten Hag is still in charge.
While Garnacho has shown moments of immaturity, he remains one of United’s most promising young talents. Yes, he’s been involved in social media controversies, but the claim that he was responsible for Ten Hag’s supposed downfall is an overstatement. In fact, Ten Hag consistently supported him, giving him an important role in the team.
If United’s problems were simply about one player, they would be much easier to resolve. The real issues stem from poor recruitment, tactical inconsistency, and underperforming senior players. Garnacho is still young and developing—he shouldn’t be blamed for everything.
