As of February 18, 2025, Manchester United is facing significant issues both on and off the pitch. The team has struggled with performance, leading to uncertainty surrounding the manager’s position and internal conflicts within the club.

Current performance and managerial challenges

Since Ruben Amorim assumed the role of manager on November 11, 2024, Manchester United has struggled to maintain consistency. With only 14 points from 14 Premier League matches, they sit in a precarious 15th position. A recent 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur has added to the pressure, with Amorim admitting, “everything is going wrong,” citing an injury crisis that has sidelined 12 first-team players. This led to the inclusion of eight inexperienced teenagers on the bench during the Tottenham game.

INEOS’s involvement and internal disagreements

In December 2023, INEOS, the British multinational chemical company led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, acquired a minority stake in Manchester United. Since then, the club has been plagued by internal conflicts, particularly regarding the manager’s appointment. Reports suggest that former sporting director Dan Ashworth was against Amorim’s hiring, favoring a manager with Premier League experience, such as Thomas Frank from Brentford. This internal divide highlights ongoing debates within the club about its leadership and future direction.
