Carlos Puyol disrupts the atmosphere in Catalonia and sparks anger in Hansi Flick due to his unjust decision regarding a Barcelona player

Barcelona icon Carles Puyol has openly criticized Hansi Flick’s treatment of goalkeeper Iñaki Peña, questioning the German manager’s fairness and decision-making.

In an interview with Radio Catalunya, Puyol expressed disappointment over Flick’s promise to Peña that he would be the starting goalkeeper ahead of Wojciech Szczesny, only for the young Spaniard to be sidelined at the first opportunity. Since then, Peña has only appeared in one match due to Szczesny’s suspension.

Puyol argued that Flick’s actions contradict the idea of merit, stating: “Peña showed his value and professionalism, yet he’s been unfairly pushed aside. Flick insists that Szczesny will play no matter what, rendering the concept of ‘worthiness’ irrelevant.”

He also questioned Szczesny’s fit for Barcelona’s style of play, highlighting that he was never considered a viable signing before his brief retirement.

Puyol wrapped up by asking why a promising young talent like Peña has been entirely sidelined, warning that Flick’s lack of transparency and fairness could undermine trust within the squad. He suggested that Peña’s only viable option might be to leave Barcelona.
