Ibrahima Konate breaks silence on interest from PSG and Real Madrid

It appears that Real Madrid won’t settle for just trying to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Although nothing is set in stone, it’s important to highlight that the Scouser has yet to agree on a contract extension, with his current deal expiring in June.

This situation isn’t unique among the “big three,” as neither Mo Salah nor Virgil van Dijk seem close to agreeing to new contracts before the summer.

If reports are accurate, Los Blancos aren’t particularly interested in the Dutch centre-back, but they are reportedly monitoring his well-regarded defensive partner, Ibrahima Konate.

The Echo’s Paul Gorst shared remarks Konate made regarding the supposed interest from the Spanish giants.

The 25-year-old, whose contract expires in 2026, admitted that hearing of Madrid’s interest was “flattering.”

While he stopped short of indicating he would consider a move to La Liga, the remarks are likely to raise concerns as Liverpool may already be facing the loss of Virgil van Dijk for free in 2025.

There remains the daunting possibility that Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mo Salah could all leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

Can we really afford to enter into a contract saga with Ibrahima Konate in 2025/26 when our defense will have already been weakened in the summer?

According to reports, the former Bundesliga star is very content at Anfield and would be open to extending his contract at the club.

However, it seems unlikely that it will happen unless it aligns with his own terms.

Considering the quality of Konate’s performances this season, this is certainly understandable!
