Chelsea began their Premier League game against Brighton & Hove Albion with strong confidence but couldn’t make the most of their opportunities, conceding a goal in the 27th minute from Kaoru Mitoma.
The Japanese winger skillfully controlled a long pass from Bart Verbruggen before calmly putting it past Filip Jorgensen.
It was a game Chelsea would rather forget, as they endured a disappointing 3-0 loss and underperformed across the board. After the defeat, Enzo Maresca shared his plan for his team following Mitoma’s standout goal.
Enzo Maresca Emphasizes the Need to Analyze Kaoru Mitoma’s Goal
Brighton fans will likely be watching Mitoma’s outstanding goal repeatedly, but Chelsea players may need to review it just as often.
Maresca stressed the importance of having his team examine the goal to avoid making similar errors in the future.
“Before Mitoma’s goal, we were in control,” the 44-year-old explained to Chelsea’s official website. “After that, we lost something. We need to look at it and figure out how to improve.”
Chelsea Once Contemplated Signing Kaoru Mitoma
If circumstances had been different last summer, Mitoma might have been wearing Chelsea’s blue instead of Brighton’s colors.
Reports from July revealed that Chelsea had internally discussed the possibility of signing Mitoma, but no deal occurred. Instead, they chose Jadon Sancho as their new left-wing player.
Now, some Chelsea fans are questioning that choice, as Sancho has faced difficulties, failing to score in his last 10 Premier League matches and drawing criticism for his recent form.
