A top striker in Europe offers himself to Barcelona to replace Lewandowski in attack

A top European striker offers himself to Barcelona as a potential replacement for Lewandowski in the attack
Barcelona is actively seeking options to strengthen its forward line for the next season. While they’ve secured Robert Lewandowski’s contract until 2026, the club aims to sign a promising young striker who can learn from the Polish star for a year and then take over as the long-term No. 9.
Reports from Spanish outlet El Nacional suggest that 21-year-old Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško of RB Leipzig has emerged as a potential candidate. Šeško is said to have shown interest in joining Barcelona, viewing it as an opportunity for immediate impact and long-term development.
Šeško’s attributes align well with coach Hansi Flick’s tactical style. Standing at 1.95 meters, he offers aerial strength, technical proficiency, mobility, and the ability to play with his back to the goal. His adaptability means he is more than just a traditional target man, as he can exploit spaces and adjust to various attacking situations.
Flick has followed Šeško’s career since his time at Red Bull Salzburg, where the striker demonstrated his goal-scoring abilities before moving to the Bundesliga. However, acquiring him won’t be simple—his contract with Leipzig runs until 2028, and his release clause is around €60 million. Given Barcelona’s financial difficulties, such a fee would require careful planning.
For this deal to happen, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco and the club’s board will need to facilitate key player sales to raise the necessary funds. Possible departures could include Ferran Torres or even Frenkie de Jong, should substantial offers come in. These sales would provide the financial flexibility to secure the signing.
Although the move is still uncertain and depends on market developments in the coming months, one thing is clear: Šeško is eager to join Barcelona, and Flick views him as a viable long-term replacement for Lewandowski. Now, the decision is in the hands of Joan Laporta and Deco, who must balance the financial implications against the potential benefits of securing a young striker capable of shaping the future of Barcelona’s attack.
