In a recent press briefing, Manchester City player Jack Grealish openly referred to 2024 as “the most difficult year of my life,” pointing out the struggles he faced both professionally and personally.

Professional Challenges

Throughout the year, Grealish encountered notable obstacles in his football career. His performance declined, which led to less time on the pitch under Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola. This drop in playing time ultimately resulted in his exclusion from England’s Euro 2024 squad by then-coach Gareth Southgate—a decision that left Grealish and his fellow players shocked.

Reflecting on that time, Grealish shared, “I’ll be honest with you… I didn’t agree with Gareth Southgate’s shock Euro 2024 decision.” He stressed his belief in his value to the team, despite admitting to a less-than-ideal season.

Personal Achievements Amidst Struggles

On the personal side, Grealish went through a life-changing moment with the birth of his daughter, Mila Rose, on September 27th, with his partner Sasha Attwood. This happy event offered a bright spot in an otherwise tough year.

Looking Forward

Despite the challenges, Grealish stays hopeful about the future. He is optimistic that the upcoming year will present better chances and is focused on regaining his form to secure his position in both Manchester City and the England national team. His recent showings under interim England manager Lee Carsley have been encouraging, demonstrating his resilience and dedication to moving past the difficulties of the previous year.
