**Now I Realize How Crucial”—Enzo Maresca Says Brighton FA Cup Loss Made Him Realize One Player is Indispensable**

admin1 day ago 04 mins

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca feels his team learned an important lesson from their disappointing FA Cup defeat to Brighton. Although they initially led, the Blues struggled to maintain their attacking momentum and ultimately lost. However, Maresca emphasized one important realization from the match—the significant role of Nicolas Jackson in the squad.

Maresca admitted that Jackson’s absence had a considerable impact on the game. The Senegalese forward was sidelined due to injury, leaving Chelsea lacking in energy and attacking threat. The Italian coach pointed out Jackson’s importance due to his pressing and movement, which are essential elements of their style of play.

“Sometimes you need to play without certain players to understand how vital they are,” Maresca remarked. “Off the ball, his pressing is always strong, and on the ball, he is a constant danger.”

Maresca confirmed Jackson is expected to return for Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League match against Brighton next week, which is crucial following their FA Cup elimination.

Maresca called for patience from the supporters despite the loss, explaining that the team is still evolving and needs to face challenges in order to contend for titles.

“To me, a successful season is about seeing progress from game to game,” Maresca stated. “Experiencing tough moments and difficulties is the only way for this club to compete for something significant.”

Several Chelsea fans questioned the decision to loan Joao Felix to AC Milan, particularly after the team struggled to create opportunities. However, Maresca defended the move, stating that Felix is happy in Italy, and Chelsea can manage without him.

“I don’t think we miss Joao,” Maresca added. “He is happy there, and we are glad he is content. We had two striker injuries on deadline day, which made it hard to plan, but Nico will be back very soon.”

While Chelsea reflected on their problems, Brighton’s manager Fabian Hurzeler expressed pride in his team’s resilience after their heavy 7-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the previous match.

“I’m really proud of how we responded to a heavy loss,” Hurzeler remarked. “It’s important not to overreact to setbacks.”

He also praised standout players like Tariq Lamptey and Kaoru Mitoma. Mitoma, who scored the winning goal for Brighton, recently turned down a significant offer from Saudi Arabia, reaffirming his commitment to the club.

Chelsea will now focus on their next Premier League match against Brighton, with Jackson expected to return. Maresca will be hopeful for a better performance and a return to winning ways.
