As the 2024/25 winter transfer window concluded, all 20 Premier League teams took a moment to evaluate their strategies for the remainder of the season, with no more player signings or exits expected.

The season has been full of surprises: Arne Slot’s seamless adaptation to Premier League management at Liverpool, Manchester City’s difficulties, and strong performances from teams like Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth have been among the key stories.

We reviewed each club’s net spend for both the summer and winter windows, ranking them based on how much they spent and earned from player sales.

20-16:

Brighton & Hove Albion had the highest net spend at -£191.34m, followed by Ipswich Town (-£124.89m), Manchester United (-£117.64m), Tottenham Hotspur (-£99.80m), and Manchester City (-£84.80m).

Brighton invested significantly to aim for a top-half finish, while Ipswich, in their first season in the Premier League, faced difficulties with player sales. Manchester United struggled to offload players, and Manchester City’s large January spend was a result of a challenging season and key injuries.

15-11:

West Ham United, Southampton, Bournemouth, Leicester City, and Arsenal also showed considerable net spends.

West Ham’s £120.23m investment has not led to the expected results, while Bournemouth managed a smaller net spend effectively. Leicester City struggled to adapt to the Premier League, and Arsenal, with a focus on the title, spent £90.61m, resulting in a net spend of -£20.88m.

10-6:

Chelsea, Brentford, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, and Wolverhampton Wanderers were active in the transfer market.

Chelsea’s major spending under Todd Boehly amounted to £210.93m, while Brentford and Fulham were more cautious in their expenditures. Nottingham Forest’s frequent player changes and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ relatively low net spend of -£8.90m were notable.

5-1:

At the top of the net spend chart, Liverpool had a modest spend of £34.95m with minimal player sales. Crystal Palace and Newcastle United excelled in transfer dealings, ranking fourth and third respectively.

Everton, with a net spend of £27.81m, managed its finances carefully, while Aston Villa, led by Unai Emery, topped the list with a net spend of £34.50m after generating £212.75m from player sales.
