Play like Cristiano Ronaldo’ – CR7 offers advice to Kylian Mbappe as Portuguese tells Real Madrid their latest Galactico ‘doesn’t know how to play as a forward’

In a direct and impactful press conference, Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t hesitate to offer clear advice to Kylian Mbappe, the latest Galactico to join Real Madrid. The Portuguese legend, who built a remarkable career at the Santiago Bernabéu, expressed that Mbappe still has much to learn about playing as a forward and suggested the French star could improve by adopting aspects of Ronaldo’s playing style.
“Mbappe doesn’t know how to play as a forward,” Ronaldo remarked without mincing words. “He’s an extraordinary talent, there’s no doubt about that. His speed, technique, and finishing are elite, but playing for Real Madrid isn’t just about individual brilliance. It’s about understanding how to lead the attack, positioning yourself wisely, and taking full advantage of every chance. If he wants to succeed at Madrid, he must adapt his game. He should play like I did.”
Ronaldo, who netted 450 goals in 438 appearances for Los Blancos, understands what it takes to thrive under the immense pressure of the Bernabéu crowd. Though his comments may sound tough, they could be viewed as tough love, intended to help Mbappe transition from a Ligue 1 star to a Real Madrid legend.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner went on to detail what he believes Mbappe needs to work on. “When I joined Madrid, I had to evolve my game. It wasn’t just about speed or creativity – it was about positioning, timing, and grasping the rhythm of the game. Mbappe has all the qualities, but he needs to focus on these subtler aspects. Real Madrid demands perfection.”
A Message for Real Madrid
Ronaldo also shared a message for Real Madrid, urging the club to guide Mbappe properly. “Real Madrid is the greatest club in the world, but even the best players need support when they first arrive. The coaching staff and senior players must help him integrate into the team’s philosophy. If they do that, Mbappe can become one of the greats. But at this moment, he’s not playing like a true forward.”
Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid was seen as the beginning of a new Galactico era, with fans expecting the Frenchman to shine in La Liga and the Champions League. However, Ronaldo’s comments suggest that the transition may not be as smooth as many had hoped.
Mbappe’s Response?
While Mbappe has not yet publicly responded to Ronaldo’s remarks, he is known for his strong confidence and professionalism. It remains to be seen whether he will view Ronaldo’s criticism as helpful advice or as an unwarranted insult. Either way, the spotlight is now on Mbappe to prove himself not only as a world-class talent but as a player who can meet the immense expectations that come with donning the prestigious white shirt of Real Madrid.
As Real Madrid continues their season with aspirations of winning both domestic and European titles, all eyes will be on Mbappe to see if he can rise to the occasion and possibly even exceed the legacy of Cristiano Ronaldo.
