Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is said to be willing to risk upsetting the club’s supporters by bringing Mohamed Salah to Al-Ettifaq on a free transfer.

While Al-Ettifaq isn’t considered one of Saudi Arabia’s “big four” clubs—Al Hilal, Al Nassr, Al Ittihad, and Al Ahli—Gerrard’s position as manager could help make them a strong contender for Salah’s move.

Currently placed 11th in the Saudi Pro League and 22 points behind leaders Al Hilal, Al-Ettifaq is in urgent need of a consistent goalscorer. Reports suggest that Salah might join Gerrard’s team when his contract with Liverpool ends at the close of the season.

Although Al Ittihad is optimistic about signing Salah this summer, and his agent is reportedly in contact with PSG, sources close to Liverpool indicate that Al-Ettifaq could now be the frontrunners to acquire the Egyptian forward without any transfer fee.

Salah continues to draw attention from major clubs like Barcelona, Juventus, Inter Miami, Al Nassr, and Zamalek. Liverpool previously turned down a £150 million offer from Al Ittihad, but Salah’s recent comments suggest limited efforts from the club to renew his contract.

Al-Ettifaq is reportedly planning their long-term strategy around Salah, and if they can meet his financial demands, their growth plans ahead of the 2026 World Cup might appeal to the Egyptian forward.

For now, Salah remains under contract with Liverpool, and the club still has control of the situation—provided they are open to negotiations.
