Man City ‘considering’ shock move for ex-Premier League star months after he left England in historic deal

Manchester City is reportedly ‘evaluating’ the option of a loan move for a highly-rated midfielder just six months into his tenure at his new club.
City has faced difficulties in recent months, securing only two victories in their last 14 matches across all competitions. Presently in sixth place in the Premier League after 19 games, they appear unlikely to claim a fifth consecutive title, trailing leaders Liverpool by 14 points, with one game in hand for the Reds.
A major factor contributing to this downturn in performance has been the absence of Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, 28. The Spanish midfielder injured his anterior cruciate ligament during the 2-2 draw with Arsenal in September and has not featured since. In his place, Mateo Kovacic, Rico Lewis, and Matheus Nunes have stepped up, but replacing one of the best in his position is a challenging task.
The opening of the January transfer window presents Pep Guardiola, 53, with the chance to explore fresh options and potentially add reinforcements. Players like Martin Zubimendi and Bruno Guimarães have been linked with City, but another midfielder reportedly catching the club’s attention is former Aston Villa player Douglas Luiz, with City thought to be considering a loan deal for him.
Luiz, 26, moved to Juventus in June for £42.35m, as reported by BBC Sport. However, he has struggled to make an impression at Thiago Motta’s side, having played only nine Serie A matches without registering any goal contributions.
The player signed a five-year contract with the Turin-based club, with his girlfriend Alisha Lehmann also relocating to Italy in what was referred to as a “couples transfer.”
In November, Italian newspaper Gazzetta reported that Juventus was “open” to letting Luiz leave in January if they received substantial offers.
A possible move to Manchester City could benefit both parties. City would secure a short-term replacement for Rodri, while Luiz could find his form in a league he is familiar with. Juventus might also reduce their wage obligations, although the details remain unclear.
