Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘wants two things from Liverpool’ to reject Real Madrid move and sign new contract

Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly set two conditions for Liverpool to turn down a move to Real Madrid this summer. The 26-year-old’s contract expires in the summer, and his future has become one of the central topics in the January transfer window. According to The Times’ Paul Joyce on New Year’s Eve, Liverpool rejected an offer from Real for Alexander-Arnold, with the Champions League holders reportedly prepared to pay £20 million to secure him early.

Such an amount would fall significantly short of what Liverpool would expect if the right-back were under a long-term contract. The mere existence of the offer suggests Real is keen to finalize the deal now, as they can agree to a pre-contract for the summer.

The Liverpool Echo reported in December that Alexander-Arnold has not yet shown any intention of leaving Anfield, and it seems Liverpool are still attempting to persuade him to stay. Ben Jacobs revealed that Alexander-Arnold has made two requests to the club in exchange for considering a contract extension.

On talkSPORT, he shared: “I’ve heard that although Trent is not open to a mid-season transfer, what he does want from Liverpool – if he is to extend – is a minimum three-year deal. Additionally, he desires to eventually become the club’s captain.”

“So keep an eye on whether talks with Virgil van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold are somewhat connected. And if Trent is told he will be captain in the future, will that affect Van Dijk?”

He continued, “At this point, I think it’s safe to say that Liverpool are more confident about Van Dijk and Salah staying, while Trent Alexander-Arnold’s situation remains uncertain.”

Last month, The Athletic reported that Liverpool had offered new contracts to Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, and Salah, who are all out of contract soon. After Liverpool’s 5-0 victory over West Ham, Salah – the Premier League’s top scorer this season with 17 goals and 13 assists – was not very forthcoming regarding his future. He told Sky Sports: “We are far away from that [agreeing to a new deal].

“But again, I don’t want to put something in the media and have people start speculating. But nothing [has] really changed, and now I’m focused on the team.”

Meanwhile, Van Dijk has avoided discussing his contract talks, though David Ornstein reports that the general sentiment at Anfield is that both he and Salah will eventually sign new contracts.
