Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘wants two things from Liverpool’ to reject Real Madrid move and sign new contract

Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly outlined two requests to Liverpool in order to turn down a move to Real Madrid this summer.
The 26-year-old’s contract expires in the summer, making his future a major topic of conversation as the January transfer window begins.
On New Year’s Eve, Paul Joyce of The Times shared that Liverpool rejected a £20 million offer from Real Madrid for Alexander-Arnold, with the Champions League holders keen to secure his services before the summer.
This bid is much lower than what Liverpool would expect if the right-back were still under a long-term deal. The mere fact that Real made an offer, especially considering they can sign him for free in the summer, shows their strong intent to close the deal quickly.
In December, The Liverpool Echo reported that Alexander-Arnold had not shown any interest in leaving Anfield, and it seems that Liverpool is still trying to convince him to stay.
Ben Jacobs revealed that Alexander-Arnold has set two conditions for agreeing to a contract extension. On talkSPORT, Jacobs said: “While Trent isn’t open to a mid-season move, what he wants from Liverpool in exchange for an extension is a contract lasting at least three years, and eventually, to become the club’s captain.”
It is important to watch whether discussions surrounding Virgil van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold are connected. If Trent is promised the captaincy in the future, it might influence Van Dijk’s situation.
“As of now, it seems that Liverpool is more optimistic about Van Dijk and Salah staying, while Trent Alexander-Arnold’s situation remains uncertain,” one source noted.
SPORTbible has contacted Trent Alexander-Arnold’s representatives for a response.
The Athletic reported last month that Liverpool had presented new contract offers to Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, and Salah, all of whom are nearing the end of their contracts.
After Liverpool’s 5-0 win over West Ham, Salah—currently the Premier League’s top scorer with 17 goals and 13 assists—was not very open about his future. He told Sky Sports: “We are far away from that [agreeing on a new contract]. But again, I don’t want to make any comments that will spark rumors. Nothing has really changed, and I’m focused on the team.”
Van Dijk has also avoided commenting on speculation about his contract discussions, although David Ornstein reports that the general feeling at Anfield is that both Van Dijk and Salah will eventually sign new deals.
