Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca expressed his satisfaction following the team’s goalless draw against Everton at Goodison Park. Despite missed opportunities to secure a win, Maresca commended Everton’s defensive organization.

“I’m absolutely delighted with the result,” Maresca stated in his post-match press conference. “I told the players I’m more pleased today than after the Brentford game. We knew this would be a tough encounter, as Everton’s defensive record is among the best in Europe. They make it incredibly difficult to create chances, and we had to adjust our game plan accordingly.”

When questioned about Chelsea’s approach in the second half, Maresca acknowledged the difficulty in breaking down Everton’s defense. “We understood it would be challenging to create chances, but we worked to attack better in the second half. Enzo Fernandez moved into a more attacking role, and we made other adjustments, but we couldn’t find the breakthrough. Still, I’m proud of how the players adapted and kept pushing until the end.”

Maresca highlighted Tosin Adarabioyo’s performance, particularly a key block that prevented Everton from scoring. “Tosin was outstanding, and our defense as a whole was solid. Keeping a clean sheet is crucial, especially given our injuries. The players showed resilience and determination, which we can build upon.”

He also praised Robert Sanchez, the goalkeeper, for making critical saves during the match. “Robert performed well, though he didn’t have many saves to make. We’re pleased with his contribution, and it’s clear his hard work in training is paying off.”

Maresca acknowledged the difficult windy conditions that affected both teams’ ability to play their usual style. “It was a different type of game, involving long balls, second balls, and set pieces. Our players showed great adaptability and togetherness, which was fantastic. We’ll take the point and focus on the next match.”
