Man Utd fans have finally reached their limit with one player and want him gone after Tottenham defeat

Ruben Amorim brought Alejandro Garnacho back into the matchday squad, but there was no place for Marcus Rashford, who earlier this week revealed in a bombshell interview that he was ready to leave Manchester United. Amorim insisted Rashford’s exclusion was purely a “selection” decision and expressed satisfaction with Garnacho’s improved performances in training after his omission from the Manchester derby squad.
Despite Garnacho’s return from the bench, the Argentine couldn’t prevent United from being eliminated from the Carabao Cup. Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur took an early lead through Dominic Solanke, capitalizing on an error by Altay Bayindir. The lead was doubled shortly after halftime when Dejan Kulusevski scored, and Solanke netted his second just ten minutes later.
United’s defensive frailties came under intense scrutiny, with Lisandro Martinez receiving heavy criticism for his involvement in Tottenham’s goals. Gary Neville described his clearance during the buildup to Kulusevski’s goal as “whimpish,” a sentiment echoed by frustrated fans on social media.
One fan wrote, “Martinez having an absolute stinker! Shocking defending. Cost us the game.” Another added, “People won’t want to hear it but Martinez has been poor for months, had a great game in the Derby but apart from that he’s looked very suspect for a long time. Nothing like his first season self.”
Other fans called for drastic measures, with comments such as, “He needs to become a squad player if we’re honest, not good enough to win a league title,” and, “I would sell him in the summer. I know he’d need replacing but frankly, even in his first year he had moments where he looked suspect. He’s just not top 4 prem quality and cannot be trusted.”
A final critique suggested, “Not been the same since the injury, think we probably need a new LCB in the summer.”
Despite their struggles, United nearly mounted a dramatic late comeback, aided by errors from Tottenham’s backup goalkeeper Fraser Forster. A misplaced pass allowed Bruno Fernandes to set up Joshua Zirkzee for a goal, and moments later, Amad Diallo capitalized on a slow clearance from Forster with a sliding tackle that ended in the net.
However, Tottenham regained control when Son Heung-min scored directly from a corner, leaving Bayindir furious as he claimed he was fouled in the buildup. With no VAR available, the referee upheld the goal.
Jonny Evans added a late injury-time goal to intensify the drama, but Spurs held on to secure their place in the semi-finals. Tottenham will join Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle in the last four of the competition.
