**Manchester United Leading Race to Sign Paraguayan Starlet Diego León**

Cerro Porteño sporting director Gabriel Wainer has confirmed that Manchester United are currently leading the chase to sign highly-rated 17-year-old left-back Diego León. The Paraguayan youngster has attracted interest from several Premier League and European clubs following a standout season, but United are reportedly in advanced negotiations to secure his signature.

According to the *Manchester Evening News*, United have scouted León extensively and are in talks with Cerro Porteño over a £3.1 million deal. Known for his impressive speed, height, and athleticism, León is regarded as one of South America’s brightest young prospects.

Wainer addressed United’s interest during a press conference in Paraguay, stating:

“Manchester United has a clear intention to sign Diego León, but the paperwork has not yet been finalized. Other teams have also inquired about León recently, but Manchester United is the only one to formally express intent.”

United’s pursuit of León aligns with their need to bolster their options at left-back. Tyrell Malacia, who is currently Ruben Amorim’s first-choice in the position, has faced challenges after returning from an 18-month injury layoff. Meanwhile, Luke Shaw’s recurring fitness issues have added to concerns about depth in the role.

The addition of León would provide long-term reinforcement and competition in the position. Although the deal is not yet complete, United seem determined to finalize the transfer and secure the services of a player who could play a significant role in the club’s future.

León’s potential signing reflects United’s continued focus on developing young talent, with the teenager potentially set to join a growing list of emerging stars at Old Trafford. For now, all eyes remain on the negotiation process as United work to bring the Paraguayan talent to England.
