Ruben Amorim hints at surprise Bruno Fernandes change after Bodo/Glimt win that Erik ten Hag never tried

Ruben Amorim has hinted that he could decide to make a surprise permanent change to Bruno Fernandes’ role after Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Bodo/Glimt.
Manchester United secured a comeback victory at Old Trafford on Thursday night, with Rasmus Højlund scoring twice to overturn a deficit against Norwegian visitors Bodø/Glimt.
Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring within the first minute with a close-range finish, but two quick goals from the opposition left United trailing. Højlund leveled the score before halftime with a composed strike and later completed the turnaround in the second half, sealing a 3-2 victory.
Manager Ruben Amorim made several changes to the lineup, emphasizing squad rotation by introducing Antony, Tyrell Malacia, and Mason Mount into the starting eleven. One notable tactical adjustment was positioning captain Bruno Fernandes in a deeper midfield role, a departure from his usual advanced position.
Under previous manager Erik ten Hag, Fernandes occasionally played in a deeper role, but this was the first time he did so in Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system. Speaking to *TNT Sports* after the match, Amorim highlighted the reasoning behind the shift and its benefits for the team.
“Bruno is the most experienced player, and you can feel it in the tempo of the game,” Amorim explained. “Sometimes we need to start the play, and Bruno is the right man to control the tempo.
“[Bodø/Glimt] played with a back four, closing the center and switching play often. Bruno is the best at managing those situations. If you look at this game, Mason Mount was playing more advanced, often with his back to goal, while Bruno is better with the game in front of him.”
United return to Premier League action on Sunday when they host Everton at Old Trafford. Following that, Amorim will face his first major test as United manager with a midweek trip to Arsenal on December 4.
