Barcelona suffered a surprising 2-1 defeat at home to Las Palmas on Saturday in the 15th round of the Spanish League. The loss leaves Barcelona with 34 points at the top of the league, just four points ahead of Real Madrid, who have two games in hand. Should Madrid win both matches, they would overtake the Catalans as league leaders.

According to reports from the Catalan newspaper *Sport*, the defeat has intensified pressure within the Barcelona camp, with club president Joan Laporta growing increasingly concerned about the team’s performance. Laporta is particularly dissatisfied with Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, whom he accuses of lacking effort, pressing intensity, and commitment on the field.

The club had previously offered de Jong a contract renewal, but the player has yet to respond. Frustrated by the lack of progress and his high salary, Laporta is reportedly considering terminating de Jong’s contract during the January transfer window. The aim would be to replace him with a higher-quality player who could make a greater impact on the team’s performance.

Laporta is said to be actively seeking a way to offload de Jong and appears determined not to see him in Barcelona’s colors for much longer.
