Barcelona suffered an unexpected defeat against Las Palmas in the fifteenth round of the Spanish League at the Louis Campanis Olympic Stadium on Saturday evening. The loss puts Barcelona’s league leadership at risk, maintaining only a four-point lead over Real Madrid, who have played two fewer matches. Barcelona’s points now stand at 34.

The Catalan newspaper *Sport* reported that the defeat and the potential loss of the league lead deeply unsettled the team and sparked unprecedented anger from club president Joan Laporta. He holds the German coach responsible for the team’s repeated setbacks and demands immediate improvements. Laporta has warned that he will not exhibit the same patience as he did with Xavi in the past.

According to the newspaper, Laporta confronted the German coach in the dressing room after the match, criticizing him for selecting goalkeeper Iñaki Peña and midfielder Frenkie de Jong. He insisted Peña be excluded from future matches due to poor performance and decided not to renew de Jong’s contract, planning to let him leave for free. Laporta’s frustration also extended to Robert Lewandowski’s continued inclusion despite his underwhelming performance.

Laporta demanded that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny replace Peña in upcoming matches, stating, “Any shot on goal seems to go in; it’s time for Szczęsny.” The coach, however, defended himself, citing the absence of Marc Casadó in midfield, which Gavi could not adequately cover. He also criticized the club’s failure to secure high-quality transfers, urging Laporta to offload players like de Jong, Fermin López, and Gerard Martín and invest in top-tier right and left backs, as well as a world-class winger.

The coach also expressed doubt about the team’s ability to compete for titles with players like Ferran Torres and Jules Koundé, whom he accused of playing unfocused. Additionally, he reprimanded Gavi for his poor performance in the match against Las Palmas. The tension between Laporta and the German coach highlights growing dissatisfaction within Barcelona’s ranks amid their recent struggles.
