Manchester United fans were left baffled by what former UFC star Francis Ngannou was doing at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.

‎Cameroon-born MMA fighter Francis Ngannou made headlines during Ruben Amorim’s first home game as Manchester United manager, a thrilling 3-2 Europa League win over Bodø/Glimt. Ngannou, who recently returned to MMA with a knockout victory against Renan Ferreira following boxing bouts against Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, added some unexpected entertainment at Old Trafford

The evening began innocently enough, with Ngannou posing for photos with United goalkeeper Andre Onana. Things took a playful turn when the pair started shadowboxing on the pitch. Ngannou then grabbed Onana, who tried to escape before being taken down. The fighter jokingly mounted the keeper, pretending to land punches and elbows, much to the amusement of onlookers.

The lighthearted exchange drew mixed reactions on social media. While some fans appreciated the humor, others voiced concerns about potential injuries. Comments ranged from playful warnings like “Please don’t injure my goalie” to concerns about the risks, with one fan noting, “Francis knows what he’s doing, but there’s always a small chance of injury.”

This isn’t the first time a similar incident has sparked debate. After Arsenal’s Champions League win over PSG in October, Conor McGregor engaged in a mock sparring session with Bukayo Saka at the Emirates Stadium. While Saka laughed it off, telling McGregor to “be careful,” the event raised questions about player safety, especially as McGregor reportedly didn’t have permission to access the pitch.

Both incidents highlight the need for caution during such interactions, even when they’re all in good fun, as fans and clubs alike remain wary of unexpected injuries to key players.
