Modric reacts strongly after defeat : « Mbappe ? Things do not work like.. »

On Wednesday night, Real Madrid suffered another Champions League defeat, losing 2-0 at Anfield to Liverpool. Already weakened by counter-performance against Lille and AC Milan, Carlo Ancelotti’s team is struggling to regain its brilliance. Despite the presence of Kylian Mbappe, supposed to lead the’ attack in the absence of Vinicius Jr, forfeit for the match, the Madrilenians showed nothing offensively.
Kylian Mbappé, who was anticipated to lead Real Madrid’s attack, fell short of expectations during the match, notably missing a vital penalty that could have given his team a chance to get back into the game. As the final whistle blew, he came under significant criticism for his performance. However, Luka Modric stepped in to defend his teammate.
In an interview with Movistar after the match, Real Madrid’s captain expressed support for Mbappé, stating, “Mbappé? We see him working hard in training and staying confident. Sometimes things don’t go well, like today with the penalty, but we believe in him, and I’m sure he’ll meet the expectations placed on him. We need to stay patient and move forward.”
Modric also offered his perspective on the team’s overall performance, saying, “We’re not used to losing, but this is the Champions League, and these matches are always tough. We have three games left, and we need to improve. I believe we will. In the first half, we played well, and the penalty could have changed the game. Unfortunately, we didn’t capitalize on it, and their second goal was a blow.”
The 39-year-old midfielder emphasized the importance of finishing opportunities more effectively, noting that the team’s counterattacks lacked precision. Despite the defeat, Modric remains optimistic about Real Madrid’s prospects in the competition, urging for resilience and a return to the club’s expected level of performance.
