Liverpool’s win over Real Madrid means something has happened for very first time in Champions League history

Real Madrid created an unwanted piece of history on Wednesday night after they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League.
It has been a dismal Champions League campaign for Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid, who find themselves in an unfamiliar position, sitting 24th in the league phase with just two wins from five matches.
The struggles began in October when Lille handed them their first Champions League defeat since May 2023 with a shocking upset at the Pierre-Mauroy Stadium. Shortly after, Real Madrid suffered another setback, losing convincingly to AC Milan at the Bernabeu.
Their woes continued against Liverpool, where a 2-0 defeat—courtesy of goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah—set an unwanted record. For the first time in their storied history, Real Madrid have lost three matches in a single Champions League group stage or league phase.
Now dangerously close to elimination, Los Blancos sit in the 24th spot, the final position for the round of 16 play-offs. Ancelotti’s side faces immense pressure to turn things around as the competition intensifies.
