After weeks of anticipation, Amorim is set to oversee his first match as Manchester United head coach on Sunday afternoon against Ipswich Town at Portman Road. The 39-year-old, considered one of the most promising coaches in world football, has conducted only a few training sessions at Carrington but has already identified standout players.

One of the notable performers is 16-year-old Godwill Kukonki, a towering 6ft 5in defender known for his versatility. Reports from Fabrizio Romano and AcademyScoop confirm that Kukonki has been included in Amorim’s first matchday squad.

The academy product, with United since the age of five, got his first experience with the senior team earlier in the week and has impressed coaches with his physicality and skill. The Manchester Evening News described Kukonki as an imposing presence, comparing him to Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol. Despite being a natural centre-back, his adaptability to play as a left-back and his proficiency with his left foot make him a promising alternative to Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.

Amorim has also been encouraged by Mason Mount’s determination in recent sessions. Speaking to the club’s media, Amorim expressed admiration for Mount, noting his hunger to succeed and his efforts to recover from injury setbacks.

Highlighting Mount’s suitability for the team’s system, Amorim emphasized his versatility, stating he has two roles in mind for the midfielder. The manager’s optimism suggests Mount could play a key role under his guidance.
