VAR has issued an apology to Manchester City after controversially disallowing an early goal by Erling Haaland in their match against Tottenham Hotspur.
The incident, which saw City denied the opening advantage, has drawn widespread criticism, with the referee involved reportedly suspended indefinitely following the error.
The decision proved costly as City went on to suffer their fifth consecutive defeat of the season, a rare slump for Pep Guardiola’s side. The loss has intensified scrutiny on VAR’s consistency and decision-making, as well as on City’s recent struggles to maintain their usual dominance.
