Liverpool fans have turned on one player despite late comeback win vs Southampton

Liverpool fans slated one of their own players despite coming from behind to beat Southampton away from home.
Liverpool secured a dramatic comeback victory at St. Mary’s, beating Southampton 3-2 in a match filled with twists. Dominik Szoboszlai capitalized on an early error from Alex McCarthy to put the Reds ahead, but Southampton quickly turned the game around. Adam Armstrong equalized after converting a rebound from his own penalty, awarded controversially. Mateus Fernandes then gave the hosts the lead early in the second half.
However, Liverpool’s talisman, Mohamed Salah, proved decisive yet again. He scored twice, including an 83rd-minute penalty, to complete the turnaround and notch his 10th goal of the season. The win pushed Liverpool eight points clear of Manchester City, who suffered a shocking 4-0 home defeat to Tottenham—Guardiola’s side’s fifth consecutive loss.
Despite the win, Liverpool fans expressed frustration with Darwin Núñez, who struggled to make an impact. The Uruguayan forward, now in his third season, drew criticism for his ineffectiveness and a moment of theatrics when he feigned being struck by Southampton’s Jack Stephens. Many supporters voiced their preference for Diogo Jota to return to the starting lineup once fit.
Fans were vocal about Núñez’s performance on social media, with one questioning why he wasn’t substituted given his poor display and heavy international schedule. Others lamented his lack of presence in the box, with some suggesting alternative players for the striker role.
Liverpool now turn their attention to a crucial week, hosting Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday before facing Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.
