Manchester City Ready to Break Records for Rodrygo in January

Manchester City is reportedly preparing a €150 million (£126.2m / $163.2m) bid for Real Madrid star Rodrygo as they aim to bolster their attack in the January transfer window. The Brazilian winger has drawn interest from several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool and Arsenal, but City is leading the race with their record-breaking offer.

Rodrygo, 23, has been a vital player for Real Madrid, contributing 57 goals and 43 assists in 229 appearances. His versatility across the front line and his potential to fill gaps created by uncertainty around Erling Haaland’s future has made him a top target for Pep Guardiola. If completed, the transfer would mark the most expensive signing in Premier League history.

Despite City’s determination, negotiations are expected to be tough. Real Madrid views Rodrygo as a cornerstone for their future and is unlikely to part with him easily, especially given his contract runs until 2028. Over the summer, Rodrygo expressed his commitment to Madrid, dismissing rumors of a departure.

City’s search for reinforcements comes as Guardiola looks to maintain squad depth amidst a packed schedule. While the club already boasts wingers like Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku, Rodrygo’s addition would provide further quality and options in attack. Barcelona’s Raphinha has also been identified as an alternative, though financial constraints could force the Catalan club into a sale.

As City also explores replacements for Kevin De Bruyne in midfield, their ambitious plans underline their intent to remain dominant domestically and in Europe. However, prying Rodrygo away from Madrid could be their toughest challenge yet.
