Ex-Manchester United star Ruud van Nistelrooy has been linked with a shock club just days after leaving Old Trafford

After Manchester United parted ways with Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed as interim head coach until Ruben Amorim’s arrival. However, on Monday, the club announced that the Dutchman would be leaving Old Trafford following Amorim’s appointment.

In a statement, United expressed gratitude to Van Nistelrooy, saying, “Ruud rejoined in the summer and has led the team for the past four matches as interim head coach. Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and his approach throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.”

Now, just days after his departure from United, Van Nistelrooy has been tipped for a swift return to management. Sky Bet has placed him at 3/1 odds to become the new manager of Coventry City, a significant jump from his previous 40/1 odds.

Other candidates reportedly in the running for the role include Frank Lampard, Lee Carsley, Matt Bloomfield, and Robbie Keane. Coventry is in search of a new manager following the departure of Mark Robins, who had an impactful tenure.

Coventry City released a statement on Robins’ departure: “Coventry City Football Club has made the difficult decision to terminate the contract of Mark Robins as manager with immediate effect. Since 2017, Mark has overseen the resurrection of Coventry City, leading the club from League Two to Champions of League One and narrowly missing both the Premier League and a second FA Cup Final. This decision was not taken lightly, and we wish Mark the best of luck in the future.”
