Manchester City has received a significant boost in their pursuit of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who is now reportedly eager for a move to the Premier League. The 24-year-old, previously linked with Liverpool, has decided he’s ready for the next step in his career, with City emerging as a strong contender for his signature.

Zubimendi has been a crucial part of Sociedad’s campaign, consistently starting and playing full matches, although his contributions lean more towards defense and playmaking than scoring, with only one goal and two assists. His performances have attracted attention from top clubs, and City’s interest has intensified following Rodri’s ACL injury, which is expected to sideline him for the season. Although Rodri aims to recover before the campaign ends, City may need reinforcements in the defensive midfield role sooner.

Earlier, Zubimendi had reportedly turned down a Liverpool offer out of loyalty to Sociedad. However, his recent openness to a Premier League move is positive news for City, who are prepared to activate his £50.3 million release clause in January. Liverpool, dealing with their own midfield concerns, may reignite their interest to challenge City for Zubimendi’s signature, setting up a potential transfer battle as the window approaches.
