BREAKING NEWS: Viktor Gyokeres, A Striker For Sporting CP, Is Expected To Join Manchester United In January Following The Appointment Of Ruben Amorim As The Team’s New Manager.

After Viktor Gyokeres netted a hat-trick to help Ruben Amorim’s Sporting CP secure a 4-0 victory over Manchester City, the Swedish forward has become a key talking point in football discussions. This result marked City’s heaviest defeat since 2020 and was particularly sweet for Amorim, who had previously overseen a 5-0 loss to City in Lisbon in 2022. At the same time, Gyokeres was playing for Coventry City, who lost 2-0 to Cardiff City.
Gyokeres had an impressive run at Coventry, scoring 43 goals in 116 appearances, which caught the attention of Amorim and led to a £20 million transfer to Sporting in 2023. His agent remarked, “I only got Gyokeres to Sporting because of Ruben Amorim.”
Given his recent performance, it’s unsurprising that Gyokeres is being linked with a move to Manchester United. However, both Gyokeres and Amorim have downplayed the idea of a transfer to Old Trafford, with Amorim pointing to the player’s significant €100 million (£83.9 million) release clause.
Amorim recently stated, “I will not take any of Sporting’s players in January,” emphasizing the difficulty of a deal given Gyokeres’ hefty release clause.
This situation is complicated for Manchester United and Dan Ashworth, who was Brighton & Hove Albion’s technical director when Gyokeres was sold to Coventry for £1 million in 2021. Coventry made a £19 million profit on him, and now stands to benefit from a 15% sell-on clause in his contract with Sporting, which drops to 10% if Gyokeres meets certain performance targets.
As a result, Sporting may hold out for an even higher transfer fee, considering Coventry’s share in any future sale.
