Liverpool are unlikely to part with Trent Alexander-Arnold before the season ends, having reportedly set a high price that Real Madrid is unwilling to meet during the January transfer window.

With just eight months left on his current contract, the 26-year-old full-back has become a hot topic in football discussions. A Liverpool academy graduate, Alexander-Arnold is strongly linked to a potential move to Real Madrid. Speculation suggests he may decide not to renew his contract at Anfield, opening up the possibility of him joining the Spanish giants at the Santiago Bernabeu next season.

Real Madrid seems prepared to wait until summer for Alexander-Arnold. Recent rumors connecting the Liverpool defender to Carlo Ancelotti’s team intensified when he publicly expressed his ambition to be the first full-back to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or award, an accolade often associated with La Liga players.

Given this, Real Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold is expected to grow. Though Dani Carvajal’s recent injury has led the 15-time European champions to consider a mid-season reinforcement, reports from Defensa Central suggest Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is unlikely to sanction a January bid for Liverpool’s number 66, due to Liverpool’s high valuation.

Liverpool has set Alexander-Arnold’s asking price at a minimum of £42 million (€50 million) for a January transfer. However, Real Madrid appears hesitant to pay such a substantial fee for a player they could acquire for free six months later. With Alexander-Arnold’s contract nearing expiration, Perez is aware that overpaying isn’t necessary to bring the English international to Spain. The prospect of playing for Real Madrid is enticing for many players, especially for someone who has not dismissed the idea of a transfer. Moreover, with the option to negotiate a pre-contract in just two months, Madrid holds a favorable position in the negotiations.

Until any official announcements are made regarding Alexander-Arnold’s future, Liverpool fans remain anxious, fearing that one of their most cherished homegrown talents could be in his final season at Anfield. Since joining Liverpool’s first team in 2016, Alexander-Arnold has become a key figure in the squad. His standout performances, especially during the 2018-19 Champions League season, were crucial in Liverpool’s title success, and he has contributed to 102 goals across 322 appearances in all competitions.

Alexander-Arnold’s potential exit raises concerns about Liverpool’s future, given the impact he has made since progressing through the academy.
