Man Utd fans want Ruben Amorim to make immediate change to the team after watching Chelsea game

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim received an overwhelming amount of advice on team selection during Sunday’s Premier League game against Chelsea.

Amorim, 39, recently signed a contract with United that runs until June 2027, with the possibility of an additional year. He is set to lead his first official game against Ipswich Town on Sunday, November 24, though he will assume control at the club starting Monday, November 11, giving him valuable time on the Carrington training ground before the month’s trip to Portman Road.

Fans anticipate that Amorim, based on his history with former players, may give more first-team opportunities to Manuel Ugarte, a midfielder he coached at Sporting Lisbon. Ugarte, who joined PSG in 2023 as one of Europe’s top defensive midfielders, has struggled to find his form since his summer transfer but is already familiar with Amorim’s favored 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 setup.

Despite this familiarity, fans voiced concerns about his recent partnership with Casemiro, which was on display in the Chelsea game. On social media, fans expressed their dissatisfaction, with one commenting, “An Ugarte-Casemiro double pivot might be one of the worst combinations in possession.” Another wrote, “This Casemiro-Ugarte pivot is taking years off my life,” while others labeled the pairing “criminal” and noted issues with ball retention when paired with Bruno Fernandes.

However, interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy remains optimistic about Ugarte’s potential. “I’m convinced Manuel will become a fantastic player for United,” said Van Nistelrooy. “He’s great at disrupting play and recovering balls to set up our attacks.”

With injuries sidelining Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount, Van Nistelrooy acknowledged that United will rely more heavily on Ugarte in upcoming matches. “While recruitment isn’t my role, I see Manuel working hard every day. He’s adjusting well, he’s eager to contribute, and his motivation is high. We’re thin in midfield, and we’ll need him. I’m confident he’ll perform well in the next games.”
