Thierry Henry points out an Arsenal player who is currently falling short compared to his teammates.
Following a disappointing result in the title race against Bournemouth, Emmanuel Petit highlighted that one player isn’t meeting expectations. William Saliba’s red card complicated matters for Mikel Arteta’s squad, but fortunately, Saliba will be available for the midweek European match since his suspension starts later this month.
With Martin Ødegaard still out and Bukayo Saka struggling, Arsenal needs its key players to step up. Petit specifically called out new signing Mikel Merino as someone who is not performing to the expected level.
Henry observes that Merino has yet to adapt to the speed of English football. In remarks made on Premier League Productions, Petit expressed his worries about Merino’s transition, stating, “He hasn’t fully acclimated to the pace and intensity of the game here. In Spain, you have more time on the ball, but in the Premier League, you must think and react quickly. I believe he can adapt.”
Merino’s early injury has affected his integration, but as an experienced international, he needs to find his form quickly. This weekend’s loss feels crucial in the title race, particularly with Liverpool and City achieving victories. Merino must settle in rapidly and start making contributions to the Gunners’ efforts.
