Arsenal analyst Charles Watts has expressed worries about Raheem Sterling’s long-term role with the team, despite the winger’s recent loan from Chelsea. While Sterling has had a notable career in the Premier League, Watts feels his initial performances at Arsenal have fallen short of expectations.

In his latest Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, Watts hinted that Sterling’s time at the Emirates may be limited, as he appears to be past his prime.

Once a leading figure in English football, Sterling has found it challenging to regain his previous form during his loan at Arsenal. This situation has led to speculation about whether the club will extend his loan or sign him permanently.

Amid the uncertainty regarding Sterling’s future, Arsenal is reportedly considering alternatives for the winger position, with Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens being mentioned.

However, Watts expressed skepticism about these transfer speculations, particularly since the January transfer window is known for its challenges in securing major signings. Regarding Semenyo, he acknowledged the player’s strong start to the season and his fondness for Arsenal, which has resonated with some supporters.

Yet, Watts warned that there is currently no reliable evidence that Arsenal intends to pursue Semenyo. He noted that while Semenyo’s development should be watched, no concrete transfer plans have surfaced.

Watts also referenced Jamie Gittens, a promising young player linked to a move to Arsenal. He stressed that it’s premature to treat these rumors as certain. Although Arsenal is likely scouting for potential squad enhancements, significant transfers may not materialize until the summer.

In summary, Watts expressed doubt about Arsenal making Sterling’s loan permanent, indicating that while the club is looking into options for the winger role, it’s too early to anticipate major signings before the summer transfer window.
