Man Utd have three-man shortlist to replace Erik ten Hag as ‘contact made’ with available manager

Manchester United has reportedly created a shortlist of three candidates to potentially replace Erik ten Hag as manager. The team has had a lackluster beginning to the 2024/25 season, securing only two victories in their first seven Premier League matches, which has left them in 14th place.
This poor performance has put significant pressure on Ten Hag’s position, with some sources indicating he may only have two games to turn things around. A reliable source has now disclosed that United has prepared a shortlist of managers to consider if they decide to part ways with the Dutchman soon.
During a discussion on the mufcMPB YouTube channel, Christian Falk, the Head of Sport for Bild, mentioned that the club is actively looking at coaching candidates and has already reached out to one to check on his availability.
Falk stated, “There was a meeting at United where they discussed the future, and I heard they’re already compiling a list of potential successors.”
He identified one candidate as Edin Terzic, the former Borussia Dortmund manager. Falk noted that United has been monitoring Terzic since the summer and has already contacted his representatives.
He praised Terzic’s success in reaching the Champions League final and his strong performance against Real Madrid. While Falk confirmed that the shortlist is in place, he only confirmed Terzic’s name but mentioned that United had also previously shown interest in Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeneß and the German national team coach, Julian Nagelsmann.
However, he pointed out that both are not currently available; Hoeneß is committed to Stuttgart, and Nagelsmann is focused on the national team through the 2026 World Cup. Falk did mention that Nagelsmann could be a future target for United due to his interest in the club and aspirations to manage it someday.
He added, “Right now, there’s no chance for United, but I know he has a clear career plan, and one step could be United, as he’s really interested in the club. However, he’s currently very content with the German national team and aims to compete in the 2026 World Cup. After that, Manchester United could have a great opportunity to recruit him, but not at this moment.”
