Ten Hag is facing mounting pressure following the 3-0 loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford. The situation worsened after Manchester United let slip a two-goal lead against Porto in the Europa League, ultimately settling for a 3-3 draw thanks to a last-minute equalizer from Harry Maguire.

As reported by *The Athletic*, the club is taking a “long-term view” on Ten Hag’s future, indicating that even a loss to Aston Villa this weekend may not lead to his dismissal. However, minority co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who will be present at Villa Park, has previously spoken with several managerial candidates over the summer regarding a potential replacement for Ten Hag. Although they extended his contract following the FA Cup victory, those discussions could resurface given the current circumstances.

Among the managers United considered during the summer was Thomas Tuchel, who reportedly turned down the opportunity due to concerns about the club’s power dynamics. Now, according to *i*, United might revisit talks with the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager, should they decide to part ways with Ten Hag.

Ratcliffe’s preferences are said to include Graham Potter or Gareth Southgate, but the final choice would depend on the club’s leadership. Additionally, Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri reports that United approached Simone Inzaghi of Inter Milan about the position this week, but he is believed to have declined, opting to remain with his current club.

Another candidate is Brentford’s Thomas Frank, who had discussions with United prior to last season’s FA Cup final, where United surprisingly triumphed over Manchester City.

Despite these potential candidates, the bookmakers’ favorite for the role is current assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy. The former United striker joined the club over the summer after a successful tenure at PSV, where he won two trophies in one season.
