Regarding Chukwuemeka, Maresca stated, “Carney is a very good player, but with the number of players we have, we decided it would be better for him to go somewhere else, play 30 or 35 games, and prove himself rather than stay here and get fewer opportunities.” Unfortunately for Chukwuemeka, that move did not happen, and he remains at Stamford Bridge. In light of Maresca’s comments, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Chelsea is planning to sell Chukwuemeka in January. Romano indicated that the club is actively seeking a new team for him. Despite being signed for £20 million from Aston Villa in 2022, Chukwuemeka has struggled to secure a consistent spot in Chelsea’s lineup.

Romano noted that Chelsea were open to letting Chukwuemeka leave during the summer, but only if a club could guarantee him substantial playing time. Offers from clubs like AC Milan were declined as they couldn’t promise him a regular starting position. As Romano pointed out, “Maresca has always been transparent with his players, and during the summer window, Chelsea wanted Carney to go to a team where he could feature in at least 38 games, not one where he would remain on the bench.”

Now that Chukwuemeka has stayed without consistent playing time, Chelsea is expected to intensify efforts to find him a new club in January. Both the player and the club recognize that remaining sidelined for too long is not beneficial, and discussions are already in progress to facilitate a move that will suit all parties involved.
