Barcelona ‘line up shock move for Arsenal star’ who is ‘expected to leave’ in 2025

Barcelona is reportedly interested in acquiring an Arsenal player, who is said to be ‘unlikely’ to extend his contract at the Emirates.
Arsenal has begun the season strongly, currently positioned third in the Premier League. New signings David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori have impressed fans, although Mikel Merino has yet to establish himself due to limited appearances—he’s played only twice after suffering a shoulder injury in training shortly after joining. However, he is expected to take on a more significant role following the international break, having demonstrated his fitness in Spain’s recent 1-0 victory over Denmark.
Merino’s arrival has sparked speculation about Thomas Partey’s future, as his contract expires at the end of the season and he is not anticipated to receive a renewal offer, according to TeamTalk. With his deal ending next summer, Partey could sign a pre-contract with any club outside England starting in January.
Spanish media outlet Sport suggests he could make a surprising move to Barcelona, with new head coach Hansi Flick reportedly a fan of the Ghanaian midfielder. The report notes that Barcelona expressed interest last summer, but Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta was unwilling to let him go at that time.
Partey joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 and has made 124 appearances. He struggled with muscle injuries last season, limiting him to just 16 matches. This season, however, he has fared better, featuring nine times across competitions. If he were to join Barcelona, he might play a secondary role, yet his experience would benefit young talents like Pedri, Gavi, and Marc Casado.
After Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over PSG on October 1, Arteta emphasized Partey’s importance to the team, noting his consistent performances and improved condition after the holidays.
Interest in Partey is also reported from Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, and various Saudi Arabian clubs. Juventus showed previous interest, but their recent signings of Douglas Luiz, Khepren Thuram, and Teun Koopmeiners make a transfer unlikely.
